In
Amsoi location, we can see two small division of tea garden. These tea garden
are running in the name of Sri Krishna tea company private limited. This
company’s has an another small division of tea garden in Nellie in the Morigaon
district. The Nellie division is known as MUKESH BUG. Name of the two division
of tea garden are Amsoi tea division and Balikuchi tea division. In present
days, about one thousand workers are engaged in this two tea garden in
different categories.
If a visitor want to visit Sri Krishna tea company private
limited, he must come 6 K.M. distance
through Amsoi Forest road towards east
from the 37th National Highway. Amsoi Forest road being connected
with 37th National Highway at Dharamtul of Morigaon district. The
visitor will get first Amsoi tea division of the company. This Amsoi tea estate
was known as MERAGARH tea estate when
the garden was established ( This area is still known as Meragarh Grand in government
record ). Soon the British founder was changed the name to COOLIEKOOSIE tea estate for the problem of
outside workers.
The name was changed to
Amsoi tea estate by Mr. Monohar lal
Mahindra and Mr. Mohan lal Malpani in 1956 after taking proprietorship of the
garden. To make tea from green leafs , one tea making factory is situated in
the middle of the garden.
In the southern part of the factory a beautiful old
patterned Bungalow will draw your attention . This old Bungalow is now in use
as rest house of present proprietor and for the guests .According to an
executive officer of the garden that this bungalow was built in 1856 by British
founder of the garden ( Now, nobody can
say his name ). After clean up the jungles of the area the British person
started the plantation of tea in 1884 ( As a retired person of the garden explain in front of us
).
West side entrance gate of the factory and office a visitor will look two
churchyard tomb. One for an Indian machine
Operator, who died in a machine accident in tea factory and other is for
a 9th years old British girl who died in fever and vomiting. Her
name was Merry Wood. According to a retired person of the garden that this
incident took place between 1944 to 1945.Mr. E.M.E. Wood was the Manager of the
garden at that time. Mr. Wood was gone to Balikushi tea division to see
development work with his daughter Merry. On return way to Amsoi tea division,
little Merry saw a beautiful lotus is blooming in DAINI PUKHURI pond. She
demanded her father to get the lotus. On demand of his daughter , Mr. Wood collected the lotus from
the pond. In same day night little Merry died.
As local people suspect that she was victimized by the female evil spirit.
Assamese word DAINI means female spirit and PUKHURI means pond.
So complete
meaning of the DAINI PUKHURI is a pond of female evil spirit. This Daini
Pukhuri is located in western side of Balikushi tea division from where the old
road has gone to the garden. The old road is not in use now. The Daini Pukhuri is still in existence
but going to ruin very soon. This kind of another ancient pond can be seen in
western part of Amsoi tea division. Here two pond are in touch of each other . So local people knows these pond as JURA PUKHURI. Jura Pukhuri means joint pond. Total plantation land of Sri
Krishna tea company private limited is 218.90 hectors (as per record on
October, 2011 ). Plantation land of Amsoi division is 134.11 hectors, Balikushi
82.29 hectors and land of Mukesh Bug is 2.50 hectors. The Srikrishna tea
company private limited is now a part of Himatsingka Group of Companies. A visitor will be pleased to visit Amsoi
tea estate for its beautiful structure and natural beauty. A beautiful snow white
temple of lord Hanuman will greet the visitor in the entrance gate of the tea
garden.
